Brazil crackdown military intervention ends Monday

For nearly one year, soldiers carrying machine guns have been raiding some of Brazil’s most dangerous favelas.

Brazil‘s military claims its crackdown on crime in Rio de Janeiro has been a success.

The controversial operation, due to end on Monday, targeted some of the state’s most violent areas – most of them in the capital.

But some residents say it failed to address the root causes of the problem.
