Trade deals, dancing and protests: G20 summit day one wraps up
The summit is an historic event for Argentina and a chance for President Mauricio Macri who is struggling with double-digit inflation and recession.
Day one of this year’s G20 summit had it all, from protests in the street to trade negotiations to dancing and a cultural show.
Leaders from the world’s top economies are in Argentina for this year’s event and so are protesters.
On the inside, trade standoffs and disputes between the United States and a list of other countries overshadowed the formal agenda; outside, protesters held combative, but peaceful, demonstrations against everything from IMF demands on Argentina to the presence of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman – suspected of ordering the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
