Mexico City waterworks: System upgrade likely to affect millions

An estimated 40 percent of the city’s potable water is believed to be lost through leaky pipes.

Over eight million people living in Mexico City are looking forward to having their water supply restored after three days’ enforced drought.

Faced with crumbling infrastructure, Mexico City’s water management agency CONAGUA has been working on the supply system. Officials had warned that as many as three million city residents could be left without water when the repairs began.
