Afghan conference seeks solidarity for reforms

Afghanistan’s president says the time to invest in his country is now, while the UN warns his country is on the brink of famine.

A demonstration by Afghans outside the United Nations in Geneva is a reminder for the Afghan president of the urgency of ending the violence back home.

The protest coincides with a two-day international conference on Afghanistan that is under way in Geneva, it will evaluate Afghanistan’s progress so far and allow the government to seek support for future reforms.

However, the worsening violence in Afghanistan is threatening to undo the progress that has already been made.
