DRC candidates form alliance, hope to unite opposition

Felix Tshisekedi and Vital Kamerhe have formed a united front in the run-up to elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo to replace long-time leader Joseph Kabila.

A new alliance has been formed in the race to replace President Joseph Kabila in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Felix Tshisekedi and Vital Kamerhe, two top candidates, have united and called for the opposition to rally behind them. However, other opposition parties had already reached an agreement to support another candidate: Martin Fayulu.

Many commentators feel that if the opposition cannot reconcile their differences and unite, President Kabila‘s chosen candidate, Emmanuel Shadary, will glide smoothly to victory.
