Thousands flee Nicaragua to escape government crackdown

Over 300 people have been killed since protests started in April seeking President Ortega’s resignation.

Thousands of people have fled Nicaragua in the last few months because of political unrest.

The crackdown on protesters by the government of President Daniel Ortega has sparked widespread international condemnation. Spain is pressing for sanctions on the government of the Central American nation.

More than 300 people have been killed in protests and government action since April.
