Japan’s disability shame: Sterilisation victims demand apology

In a country preparing to host the next Paralympic Games in 2020, the prejudice continues for the seven million Japanese living with disabilities.

For more than four decades, Japan has sterilized about 25,000 of its own people who were suspected of having disabilities or mental illnesses.

After years of silence, victims of the controversial programme are demanding an apology. They also want compensation from the government.
