Illegal trawlers threaten Sierra Leone fishermen’s jobs

We go on patrol with Sierra Leone’s navy as it battles a multimillion-dollar problem.

The sea off the coast of West Africa is rich in marine life.

But illegal fishing has been threatening stocks and is costing Sierra Leone about $200m a year.

Local fishermen say their nets are being destroyed and their catch is dwindling every day.
