The Oscar nominations will be announced on Tuesday and a Syrian animated film about a young man who challenges Assad’s government with symbols of brotherhood is in the running for Best Foreign Language Film.
This year’s Oscar nominations will be announced later on Tuesday.
And for the first time, Syria had an entry in the Best Foreign Language Film category, a documentary called, Little Gandhi.
The documentary is centred on the uprising that began in 2011 and tells the story of Ghiyath Matar, a young Syrian activist.
Ghiyath wanted to free Syria from Bashar al-Assad, but renounced violence and confronted heavily armed police and troops with symbols of brotherhood.
