Tokyo: Recapturing the past

As Japan’s capital celebrates its 150th anniversary, one photographer is hoping to bring the past to life by using a photography form that dates back more than 150 years.

Tokyo celebrates its 150th anniversary this year as the capital of Japan and as one of the world’s most modern cities. Formerly known as Edo, it was renamed in 1868 during the Meiji Restoration, which marked the beginning of rapid modernisation.

In a studio in Tokyo, we met one photographer hoping to bring the past to life by using a photography form that dates back more than 150 years.
