Idlib offensive: Russia and Turkey stall fighting

Syrian government’s ally Russia appears to be giving Turkey a chance to stabilise opposition-controlled northwestern province, home to almost three million people, by fulfilling agreed-upon commitments in the so-called Astana process.

Turkey and Russia seem to have come to an unannounced agreement to stop the Syrian government from carrying out a military offensive on Idlib.

Renewed fighting there would trigger a humanitarian crisis and lead to the collapse of the so-called Astana process.
