France cuts period for refugees’ asylum bid
The French Senate passes a law reducing the time refugees can claim asylum and the number of days to appeal a rejected decision, but increases how long they can be detained before being deported.
In the past hour, the French Senate voted in favour of changes to a new immigration law that reduces the time refugees can claim asylum from 11 months to six. It is aimed at speeding up the deportation of those denied asylum and the processing of those who are accepted.
