10 years since apology for ‘stolen’ Aboriginal children

Ten years ago, Kevin Rudd made a historic apology to the Aboriginal people of Australia. Today, we talk to him about what has been achieved since then.

On February 13, 2008, the country’s then prime minister formally apologised to generations of Aboriginal children who had been “stolen” from their families by the state in an attempt to integrate them into “white Australia“.

Kevin Rudd also launched the Closing the Gap campaign, aiming to reduce the disadvantages Aboriginal people in Australia suffer.
