Philippines: Birthplace of Maute group in ruins after conflict

Butig is the birthplace of the ISIL-linked Maute group that first launched its armed assault against the nation’s military last year.

The Maute first gained notoriety by raising ISIL’s flag in several government facilities. But more than a year of fighting has left the town in ruins.
