Maduro says the constituent assembly election is the only way to guarantee peace, but critics argue it will destroy one of the region’s oldest democracies.

Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro says Sunday’s vote for a constituent assembly is not only democratic, but the only way to guarantee peace. 

But opponents call it a “fraud” and question just how free and fair the elections will be.
