Germany sounds warning on Iraqi Kurds’ independence vote

Germany’s foreign minister has warned that plans for a referendum on Kurdish independence could worsen tensions in Iraq.

On Wednesday leaders of the autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government announced plans to hold the vote in September.

Many Kurds in northern Iraq support the move towards an independent state. But some have their doubts about the timing.
