Trump’s anti-Qatar tweets muddle view of US stance on GCC crisis

The White House says President Donald Trump has held talks with Saudi Arabia’s King Salman on the diplomatic crisis between Qatar and other Arab countries.

In a phone call, the president stressed the need for unity in the region. But earlier on Tuesday, he appeared to support the isolation of Qatar in a series of tweets.

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Adel al Jubeir said Doha must stop supporting “extremist” groups and change its policies. Qatar has firmly rejected the accusations against it.
