Qatar turns to alternative food suppliers amid Gulf crisis

The Saudi-led blockade against Qatar has forced the government in Doha to secure food and water supplies from alternative destinations.

On June 5, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt cut diplomatic and trade ties with Qatar, accusing it of “supporting terrorism”.

Saudi Arabia also closed Qatar’s only land border, forcing it to import supplies via sea and air.

Freight companies from Iran, Turkey, Oman and India have stepped in to ensure there are no major shortages.
