The province had been governed by a regional power-sharing administration – led by the Irish nationalist Sinn Fein party and the staunchly pro-union DUP – which collapsed in January.
And now a likely alliance between the DUP and the Conservatives in Westminster has led some to doubt whether UK Prime Minister Theresa May’s government can still be considered neutral when it comes to rebuilding trust in Northern Irish politics.
