Peru floods put thousands in danger

Unseasonal rain in Peru has forced one region to declare a state of emergency. Police have closed bridges for fear of collapse in the city of Piura, the regional capital.

With the Piura River overflowing, 200,000 Peruvians living downstream are in danger.

A phenomenon known as coastal Nino is being blamed for the flooding. It is triggered when sea winds slow down, causing the ocean to warm up.
