Mosul recovers five months after ISIL defeat

Signs of optimism return to the devastated Iraqi city of Mosul.

It was devastated under ISIL’s rule and during the Iraqi government’s fight to retake the city.

But this week, residents have been able to celebrate Christmas for the first time in years, and there are signs that Mosul’s businesses are beginning to recover.
