Italy declares energy emergency after Austria blast
An explosion at one of Europe’s main gas distribution hubs has reduced Italy’s energy supply by 30 percent.
Italy has declared a “state of emergency” after an explosion and fire at one of Europe’s main gas distribution hubs in Austria.
The blast at Baumgarten on Tuesday morning left one person dead and injured more than a dozen others.
And it has forced the closure of the entire facility, significantly disrupting gas supplies from Russia into Europe.
Al Jazeera’s Paul Brennan reports.
