With split opposition, Venezuela socialists to gain from vote

Nicolas Maduro’s party is expected to gain in municipal elections due to a fractured opposition, but many in Venezuela say they are tired of politicians of from all the parties.

Venezuelans go to the polls on Sunday to vote for the mayors of 335 municipalities.

The ruling party is expected to sweep the board, given a boycott by most opposition parties, who say the electoral system is biased in favour of President Nicolas Maduro.

Many Venezuelans say politics takes a backseat to the struggle to make ends meet and have become disillusioned with all the parties.
