Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe has renamed the Harare International Airport after himself amid tension within his ruling Zanu-PF party.

On Monday, Mugabe fired his longtime ally and former Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa for being “disloyal”, and now critics are accusing him of trying to purge his rivals.

An opposition spokesman told Al Jazeera that there are plans to catapult his wife Grace Mugabe to be vice president, not only of the party but of the state.
