Protests in the United States city of St Louis turned violent for a third night following the acquittal of a white, former police officer over the shooting of a black motorist.

Six years ago, police officer Jason Stockley shot and killed Anthony Lamar Smith after a car chase.

Earlier this year, prosecutors charged Stockley, who is white, with first-degree murder, alleging he planted a gun in Smith’s car.

On Friday, Stockley was acquitted of the crime.

At least 47 people have been arrested since Friday.
