In the speech by Barack Obama, the US president, there was little more than words of comfort for Gazans. Yet Palestinians say its tone has made them feel optimistic. 

Whether or not his speech goes down in history as a defining moment in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will depend on what happens next.
