Charles Freeman, Barack Obama’s choice to head the US National Intelligence Council, which oversees US spy agencies, has withdrawn from the nomination due to what Freeman calls “outrageous agitation” stemming from criticism by the Israel lobby.
It is the latest embarrassment for a president struggling to staff his new administration.
