 Karzai’s call for early Aghan poll criticised 
 

Hamid Karzai, the Afghan president, is running into strong opposition to his call for elections in April – four months earlier than election officials are planning.

Just hours after Karzai issued his decree, the US expressed concern the early election would not be viable.

Hillary Clinton, the US secretary of state, has phoned him to discuss the move, and some local members of parliament say he is trying to make sure he gets re-elected.
