After weeks of violent protests and the killing of a popular Union leader, French President Nicolas Sarkozy says the worst of Guadeloupe’s unrest is over.

But as Al Jazeera’s Sebastian Walker reports, masked demonstrators are still blocking the Caribbean nation’s main highway, and employers are still in negotiations with striking workers.
