The International Red Cross says Israel has fired white phosphorous shells in its war on Gaza but says it has no evidence the chemical is being used improperly or illegally.

John Holmes, the UN co-ordinator for emergency relief, told Al Jazeera it would be inexcusable for Israel to fire white phosphorus shells into Gaza.
