Millions of Americans rely on big businesses that build plants and create jobs. When those firms close down or move, whole towns can be ruined.

One example is Wilmington, Ohio, which has been a distribution hub for DHL, a global courier company. Last week, the company said it will lay off more than 9,000 workers.
