Mexico activists declare ‘shooting won’t silence us’ in honour of slain photojournalist

Mexicans mourn the death of journalists and demand the right to free press.

Mexican activists are using the hashtag #DispararNoCalla, or ‘shooting won’t silence’, to spread awareness about the deaths of journalists. The twitter campaign was sparked by the killing of Ruben Espinosa, a photojournalist who was found dead in Mexico City after fleeing Veracuz – the most dangerous state in Mexico for journalists.

Espinosa was found along with the bodies of four others: Yesenia Quiroz, and 18-year-old aspiring beautician; Nadia Vera, a 32-year-old human rights activist; a woman identified as “Nicole”, a 29-year-old activist from Colombia; and “Alejandra”, a 40-year-old housekeeper.
