Filipino priest refuses to baptise unmarried woman’s child

A Filipino priest was suspended from serving his church Wednesday after a viral video showed him angrily scolding an unmarried mother at her child’s baptism on Sunday. In the two minute video, Father Romeo Obach of a Cebu church is heard rebuking the 17-year-old mother, saying the consequences of her actions will be passed on to her son. 

The single mother said his sermon was an insult not only to her, but to her child and family. Obach later apologised following public backlash and condemnation from organisations.

In the video below, Obach says the following: “What you did was worldly. You allowed yourself to sleep with a man who isn’t your husband? Have you no shame?”.
