Thousands in Ghana strike to demand economic justice

Ghanaian workers call out national leadership for high cost of living.

Thousands of Ghanaians marched across the 10 regional capitals, calling for better economic governance.

The demonstration, organised by the Trades Union Congress (TUC) – Ghana’s largest labour union – was the first nationwide protest since President John Dramani Mahama took office in January last year. While Ghana has one of the fastest growing economies in sub-Saharan Africa, citizens are expressing concerns over inflation, the cost of living and the declining value of the country’s currency.

Wearing red shirts, the color of TUC, demonstrators marched throughout several cities, some expressing their concerns online with #TUCdemo
