Can there be no #LoveUnderApartheid?

Ahead of Valentine’s Day, netizens lament Israel’s citizenship law.

As couples worldwide celebrate Valentine’s Day, a piece of legislation in Israel continues to separate many Palestinians from their spouses. The Citizenship and Entry into Israel Law ,which was upheld in court earlier this year, prevents Palestinians in the Territories from living with spouses who reside in Israel.

The website Love Under Apartheid features video testimonials from couples and individuals affected by the law. It has also expanded to include submissions from Palestinian couples living apart in the West Bank and in Gaza. Israel restricts movement within and between the Palestinian Territories. Inspired by the website, #loveunderapartheid erupted on Twitter and within hours it was trending worldwide.
