On Thursday, we speak to the former number two man in the US state department, Richard Armitage.
From 2001-2005 he was deputy secretary of state, and in that post was involved in the major decisions of our era, especially the launch of the ‘global war on terror’. Armitage is best known in the US for his role in leaking the name of a covert CIA agent to the press in a scandal that became known as ‘Plamegate’.
Pervez Musharraf, the Pakistani president, also accused Armitage of strong-arming Pakistan to join the ‘war on terror’ after 9/11.
