Germany’s Free Democrats party gains support ahead of elections

German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democrats are likely to remain the country’s largest party after elections set to take place two weeks from now, according to the latest opinion polls.

But it is the rise of the economically-liberal Free Democrats that is making news.
