China backs UN sanctions on North Korea as ASEAN summit held

Global pressure is mounting on North Korea after its ally China joined the rest of the UN Security Council to impose crippling new sanctions on Pyongyang.

The measures are designed to limit the country’s cashflow by banning exports and limiting investments.

The situation is being discussed in the Philippines – where a summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations is underway.
