ISIL resists Syrian rebel effort to take Raqqa

The Syrian Democratic Forces, a US-backed alliance, has continued to advance one week after its operation to retake ISIL’s last stronghold in Syria.

 

The forces are now near the walled old city but ISIL has put up significant resistance.
