French President Emmanuel Macron has hosted his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in France for talks aimed at resetting relations.

Their ties have been strained over the conflicts in Ukraine and Syria, as well as accusations that the Kremlin tried to sabotage Macron’s election campaign.

Macron chose the opulent surroundings of Versailles for the talks, which he described as “extremely frank”.
