An ardent Zionist, Friedman has long ties to Jewish settlements on Palestinian land, considered illegal by international law.

He has raised millions of dollars as head of American Friends of Beit El, a Jewish settlement built on Palestinian-owned land close to Ramallah.

Al Jazeera's Rob Reynolds reports from an Israeli settlement in the occupied West Bank on how Friedman is viewed there.
