A fifth round of UN-sponsored talks aimed at ending Syria's conflict is under way in Geneva. But Syria's chief negotiator, Bashar Jaafari, has warned that a surge in rebel violence threatens the diplomatic process.

    For their part, the rebels also accuse government troops of increased attacks.
