Gazans 'back' statehood bid at UN

Many residents support Mahmoud Abbas' bid for Palestinian statehood despite Hamas opposition.


    Hamas who control the Gaza Strip are opposing Mahmoud Abbas's bid for Palestinian statehood at the UN, calling the whole plan a "waste of time".

    But many people in the besieged strip are supporting the move by the Palestinian Authority president, because it can unite Palestinian people.

    Al Jazeera's Nicole Johnston reports from Gaza.
