Syrians mount Friday protests around country

Security forces are reported to have killed at least 15 people in Damascus and Homs.

Thousands of Syrians who again took to the streets to protest the regime of President Bashar al-Assad on Friday were confronted with violence by security forces.

Activists told Al Jazeera that at least 15 people were killed at demonstrations in Damascus and Homs. Worshippers had just begun to leave the Ibn Affan mosque in the Damascus suburb of Al Qusweh when they were hit by gunfire.

Assad has promised a national dialogue to resolve the crisis, but the Syrian army is still sweeping through villages.

Al Jazeera's Gerald Tan reports from Doha, Qatar.
