Thousands rally for reform in Bahrain

The rally is the first since a mid-march crackdown on Shia-led pro-democracy protests.

Thousands of pro-democracy protesters have staged the largest demonstration in Bahrain since the unrest began in March.

The rally was organised by the country's main opposition group Al Wefaq.

The authorities say they are only punishing those who committed crimes, and the government has called for national dialogue and reconciliation.

    Al Jazeera's Charles Startford reports.
