Talks ‘diffuse’ Lebanon tensions

Leaders from Saudi Arabi, Syria and Lebanon ‘successfully’ call for dialogue and calm.

Lebanon talks ''successful''

In an unprecedented show of unity from once bitter rivals, King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia and Bashar al-Assad, Syria’s president, have held joint talks with Lebanon’s prime minister.

Sources have told Al Jazeera that talks have succeeded in diffusing tensions in the country.

The visit comes amid fears that the results of a UN inquiry into the assassination of former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri, will spark an outbreak of violence by implicating Hezbollah members in the killing.

Saudi Arabi and Syria support opposing forces in Lebanon and the talks were seen as a show of support for the country’s stability.
