Italy probes abandoned migrant ship

Officials survey apparent harsh tactic by human traffickers of disabling and abandoning ship that left 450 stranded.

Italian investigators have surveyed the inside of the Ezadeen, a ship left adrift off the Italian coast with 450 migrants aboard.

Emergency workers have attended to the refugees after the ship was brought to port by the European Maritime Force.

There appears to be a new and cold-blooded tactic of human traffickers disabling the ship before abandoning it with the knowledge that Italy’s navy would perform a rescue operation.
