The very first crossword puzzle ran in the New York World newspaper on December 21, 1913, a hundred years ago this week.

    What's 100 years old and remains a mystery to this day?

    The answer is the crossword puzzle which has provided light relief to generations ever since it first appeared in the New York World newspaper in 1913.
