Opinion polls suggest Chancellor Angela Merkel is favourite to win third term in federal elections.

    German Chancellor Angela Merkel's CDU party has launched its official campaign two weeks ahead of the vote.

    While the Germans are calling this the "hot phase" of the campaign, opinion polls suggest Merkel is the favourite to win a third term as leader in the federal elections.
