Russia’s deep-seated military ties with Syria

Russia’s close military ties to Syria go back to the Cold War.

Ten percent of all weapons exported by Russia go to Syria, and the country has a military base at the Syrian port of Tartus.

Now, Moscow has stepped up its military presence in the region, announcing it is sending two warships to the eastern Mediterranean.
